Pakistan successfully test-fired a short-range surface-to-air ballistic missile, officials said on Tuesday.
The missile, which was developed by Pakistani scientists, can carry nuclear and conventional warhead to a range of 290 kilometers.
The missile named after Sultan Mahmoud Ghaznavi, who ruled United India and Afghanistan in the 11th century, was launched as part of an army field training exercise, according to military statement.
"The successful launch of Ghaznavi missile is another milestone which will strengthen the defense potential of Pakistan besides assuring peace in the region," said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, while congratulating the scientists and engineers for the "successful" launch.
Pakistan and India have raced against each other to test-fire missiles over the last two decades.Last Mod: 22 Nisan 2014, 11:47
