Pakistanis celebrated the countries' 16th anniversary of nuclear tests on Wednesday in response to arch rival India.
Throughout the country, participants in rallies mainly from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) danced amid the din of drum-beating and fire crackers followed by cake-cutting ceremonies.
Pakistan had conducted six "successful" nuclear tests in the southwestern Chaghi district that borders Iran and Afghanistan three weeks after India conducted five nuclear tests in May 1998.
The first South Asian Muslim nuclear nation is celebrating the anniversary just a day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in a bid to defuse lingering tensions between the two arch nuclear rivals in New Delhi.
The two countries have a long history of rivalry since 1947 which has led to three wars, two of which have been over Kashmir.Last Mod: 28 Mayıs 2014, 11:27
