Pakistan’s Defense Ministry has filed for the cancellation of the broadcast license of the country’s top news channel, Geo, for “orchestrating a calculated campaign to damage” the reputation of country’s spy agency, Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).
The ministry filed with the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority after a complaint from the agency, who has been blamed for the murder attempt on anchor and journalist on Hamid Mir in Karachi on Saturday.
Mir, host of popular talk show, Capital Talk, on Geo TV had just landed in Karachi airport from Islamabad and was on his way to his office when the attack happened.
According to Geo TV, Mir said several weeks ago in a written statement to the channel’s management that, if he was ever attacked, Pakistan’s powerful spy agency, the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), and its chief lieutenant general Zaheer ul Islam, would be responsible.
However, Pakistan’s army and Inter Services Intelligence have rejected Mir’s allegations.
This was the second attack on TV anchors in the last month in Pakistan after Raza Rumi from Express TV was shot and injured in northeastern Lahore.Last Mod: 23 Nisan 2014, 10:12
