The Pakistani Taliban (TTP) have suspended peace talks initiative with the Pakistani government, claiming that the government is not serious with the peace initiative.

"The army and government were not serious in conducting peace dialogue and talks," a local Pakistani newspaper quoted TTP spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan as saying.

Ehsan said under the circumstances there was no way that peace talks could begin and he said their proposals were not taken into consideration by the government.

TTF had said they could start peace talks with the Pakistani government in February if Nawaz Sharif, leader of Pakistan's opposition Jemaat-e Islami, served as a guarantor.
