S. Korea to buy more Israeli-made early warning radars

South Korea will buy two more Israeli-made early warning radar systems in a move to bolster its air defense, its news agency reported on Tuesday.

Seoul’s defense project promotion committee approved the $292 million worth of project to buy Green Pine Block C radar systems, Yonhap News Agency said, citing arms procurement agency.

The Block C radar has a detection range of more than 800 kilometers (497 miles) unlike the 600 km (373 miles) range of Block B, which the South Korean military already possesses, the agency reported.

According to the report, the government is expected to introduce the radars in the early 2020s.
