Armenian National Accord Party Chairman Aram Harutyunyan, running for President in the Armenian presidential election, started hunger strike on Friday.
Beginning the strike in front of the Armenian Central Electoral Committee, Harutyunyan stated that there was no point in competing as the current President Serzh Sargsian was using all means of the government to run the electoral campaign.
Stating that he would continue the hunger strike until the end of his shift, he said he would apply to the Electoral Committee to withdraw from candidacy before the day is over.
Harutyunyan called on other candidates to withdraw and leave Sargsian alone in the election.
Another candidate, Andrias Gukasyon, continues his indefinite hunger strike as he said he believed that the election was not democratic as Sargsian was using all means of the government.
The withdrawal period for candidacy ends on Friday at 5 p.m.Last Mod: 08 Şubat 2013, 15:47
