Seven people, including six police officers, were killed and 11 wounded on Wednesday when a remote-controlled bomb went off in Pakistan's Charsadda district located some 40 kilometers of Peshawar, the capital of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province that borders neighboring Afghanistan, the police said.

"Bomb was planted on a bicycle parked along the road in Sardheri bazaar of Charsadda and was detonated while a security vehicle was passing through," city police chief Shafiullah Khan told Anadolu Agency.

The victims included a child, he said.

"The police officers were assigned to maintain security of anti-polio workers," he added.

This was the second attack on security forces guarding anti-polio teams in the city in the last two months.

Two police officers were killed in a similar attack two months ago in Charsadda. Three anti-polio workers were killed in southern port city of Karachi on Tuesday propelling health workers to boycott the ongoing vaccination campaign.
