The South Korean government is considering building undersea tunnel links with China and Japan, a spokesman at the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said on Tuesday.

"At this stage, we are studying the economic and technical feasibility (of building undersea tunnels)," the spokesman told Reuters by telephone, adding that the results of the study were expected later this year.

Earlier, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper reported that proposals included a route connecting western Korea with Weihai in China's Shandong Province, at an estimated cost of 123 trillion won ($106 billion).
