Sweden will send 200 troops to Mali in order to contribute to the UN mission.

Sweden is to send 200 troops to Mali in order to contribute to a UN-led peacekeeping mission, according to Swedish press reports on Tuesday.

According to Sweden's Sverige Radio, the troops will be deployed in Mali's capital,  Timbuktu and Sweden's soldiers will be stationed in transportation and intelligence units, no time frame has been released yet.

A UN-led peacekeeping mission known as the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was establishd to try to stabilize the country after years of discontent.

In 2012 there was a military coup following an uprising by Tuareg and other armed groups.
