37 teachers and eight students were released after being kidnapped by the Taliban on June 10 in eastern Ghazni Province.

It was said by the Kandahar governor's office that the group was freed after tribal elders in Ghazni entered into negotiations with the Taliban to free the hostages.

The group who were from Kandahar State University – was attacked by the Taliban while they were aboard a bus traveling from Kandahar to Kabul.

The Taliban then divided the group and took the hostages to various locations in Ghazni Province.
