Three top members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), popularly known as Tamil Tigers, were recently arrested in multiple raids in Malaysia and have been brought to Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.
The Tamil Tigers, identified as Sangaralingarajah alias Muralichelvam, Mahadevan Kirubakaran and Selvathurai Kirubananthan, were arrested in Selangor Province and had been registered as refugees with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
They are currently being interrogated by the Terrorism Investigation Division of the Sri Lankan police force.
"They possessed LTTE propaganda materials, foreign currencies, and electronic equipment at the time of arrests," added Rohana.
It is believed that information provided by Nanthagopan, a senior leader in the Tamil Tigers, who is currently in the custody of the Terrorism Investigation Division led to successful arrests in Malaysia of the other three members.
