Voting has started in Armenia for the presidential election.

Central Electoral Committee announced the voting to start at 8 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. on Monday.

1988 centers for voting were determined in 41 polling districts and in case of no candidate gaining 50 percent of the votes, the new president will be elected in the second round of vote.

International observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) are monitoring polls with 250 short term and 23 long term observers.

The leader of the Union for National Self-Determination Party Raffi Hovannisian, the leader of Freedom Party and former Prime Minister of Armenia Hrant Bagratyan, so-called Nagorno Karabakh administration's former foreign minister Arman Melikyan, leader of the Union for National Self-Determination Paruyr Hayrikyan, political analyst Andrias Ghukasyan, epic poetry expert Vardan Sedrakyan and the incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan compete in the presidential election.
