Polling time for Turkish citizens living in Australia has come to an end in Turkey's general election that officially starts on June 7.

The voting ended at 7 p.m. local time, Sunday

There were 41,126 eligible voters in Australia, out of which some 7,189 Turkish citizens voted.

A total of 4,187 people voted in Melbourne; 2,902 voted in Sydney and 100 people in the capital Canberra.

"We attracted extensive attention here, we were like brothers with other party members," Ali Ozdemir, election committee member from Turkey’s Nationalist Movement Party said.

- Voting in Iran

Turkish citizens in Iran were also voting at Turkish missions in Tehran, Urmia and Tabriz.

The voting began at 10 a.m. and will end at 7 p.m., local time.

A total of 850 Turks are eligible to vote in Iran.

"Our only wish is that the results of the election bring about a good future for all people," Rıza Hakan Tekin, Turkish ambassador in Tehran, said.

According to Turkey's Supreme Election Board, 112 polling stations have been set up for almost three million Turkish nationals living abroad.

Elections in Turkey have the second-highest voter turnout among developed democracies, according to a report released by the Washington-based Pew Research Center.
