Bulgarian government decided to build a 30 km wall on southeast borders with Turkey due to Syrian refugee influx.
In the press conference held following the Council of Ministers meeting on Monday, it was stated that the security measures on the borders are to be tightened.
Bulgarian Interior Minister Tzvetlin Yovchev, stating that the refugee influx is coming from the southeastern borders with Turkey said, “If we can’t manage the refugee influx, we may face a humanitarian crisis which would have reflection on whole social sphere.” Yovchev, furthermore, warned about the increase in crime rings and terrorist groups.
Interior Minister Yovchev reported that 6,445 refugees entered Bulgaria since the beginning of the year, 4,445 of whom are from Syria.
Bulgarian government, besides fencing the borders, also decided to keep a close watch on the refugees or suspected illegals in the country in closed accommodation centers.
Bulgaria as an EU member would ask the European Commission to determine a common policy concerning the refugee issue. The government will ask an additional 6 million Euro from Brussels for the issue as well.Last Mod: 22 Ekim 2013, 16:28
