The 52 people massacred by Serbian security forces in the village of Prekaz during the struggle toward independence were commemorated.
During the Kosovo War, Serbian military and police raided the village of Prekaz and on March 7, 1998 killed 52 people, including a Kosovo Liberation Army co-founder Adem Jashari.
Those killed in the massacre were remembered at a ceremony held in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.
Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci also attended the ceremony.
In her speech, President Jahjaga thanked the Jashari family for their contributions to the independence struggle.
A ceremony was also held in front to the Adem Jashari memorial in the Albanian capital of Tirana.
During the Kosovo War, the village of Prekaz was raided by Serbian security forces from March 5 to March 7, 1998.
During the siege of the village, 52 people were killed including Kosovo Liberation Army co-founder Adem Jashari and 38 other members of the Jashari family.
