Deadlock at implementing Serbia-Kosovo agreement

World Bulletin/News Desk

Prime ministers of Kosovo and Serbia couldn't reach an agreement on the implementation of the agreement signed following the EU-mediated talks aimed at normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

EU's top foreign policy official Catherine Ashton stated negotiations for the implementation of the agreement signed last month in Brussels would continue on Wednesday.

Ashton emphasized the determination of Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic in implementing the agreed solution.

The historic deal was struck on April 19 to normalize relations between Serbia and Kosovo and to pave way for their EU membership.

The agreement gives Kosovo's Serbs their own police and justice representatives within the Kosovar system and it concedes that Pristina has legal authority over the whole territory.
