Former Kosovo Liberation Army commander Fatmir Limaj and ex-KLA secretary Jakup Krasniqi have launched the new Initiative for Kosovo Party to challenge the ruling Kosovo Democratic Party.

Around 100 supporters applauded the party, which was initiated on Friday in the Kosovo capital Pristina.

Led by Kosovo prime minister Hashim Thaci's former aid, ex-guerilla fighter Limaj was quoted by Balkan Insight saying “We have to tell the truth. Kosovo is not in a good way. The people of Kosovo are tired. They are tired of illusions, demagogy, false promises, endless waiting and insecurity about the future.”

His partner Krasniqi also added “The authoritarian way [of running] political parties was transferred to state institutions and has become the main obstacle for a well-functioning Kosovo.”

Both men will co-manage the party, which will be the 62nd officially-approved political party in Kosovo.
