Four of 11 patients who were admitted to hospitals in Croatia with complaints of symptoms similar to those of encephalitis and meningitis have been confirmed with West Nile virus infection by Croatian Institute of Public Health, Dr Andrija Stampar from the institute told AA.
Stampar of the infectious diseases service of the institute said that 15 people came to their service were suspected to have been contracted with the virus and four of them were diagnosed to be carrying the virus, adding that the other 11 patients are still undergoing diagnostic tests.
Most of the people who are affected with the symptoms are from broader Zagreb area.
