Serbia has ‘de facto’ recognized Kosovo due to a border management deal sealed between the countries last year, Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said on Thursday at the first parliamentary assembly of 2014.

Thaci praised successful dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo in 2013.

Kosovo’s declaration of independence in 2008 has been recognized by more than 100 countries recognized it as an independent country during Thaci’s tenure, which began weeks before the declaration.

Thaci said the mutual agreement on "the Integrated Border Management" between Serbia and Kosovo meant that "Serbia has 'de facto' recognized the territorial integrity of Kosovo, as well as its police, customs and other state institutions."

Regarding challenges facing his country in 2014, Thaci said this year would be devoted to working towards the advancement of the rule of law and economic development.

"I am convinced that 2014 will be a year of strengthening economic development in our country, creating new working positions, welfare and a year of European perspective for Kosovo," said Thaci.
