Kosovo's Assembly announced on Wednesday the re-vote to be held on Sunday November 17 in the country's northern region.

A re-vote became necessary in Kosovo's predominantly Serbian north Mitrovica when the recent November 3 local elections were aborted after masked men stormed three polling places and broke ballot boxes.

Addressing the Assembly, Kosovar Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said the initial preparations for a re-vote in North Mitrovica on Sunday had finished.

"I am completely sure that this will be done in accordance with international standards," said Thaci, stressing his expectations of mass participation among citizens in voting for their representatives.

"The Kosovo government will continuously support the Central Election Commission in any request it submits to the government. I am sure this process will be successfully finished on November 17," he said.

Citizens in North Mitrovica were calling for boycotts against the elections before November 3.
