Republika Srpska president Milorad Dodik stated on Monday that he was against Bosnia-Herzegovina’s accession to NATO.

Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is split into two federal states – the predominantly Muslim Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the mainly ethnic Serb Republika Srpska – is considering a referendum on joining NATO.

Dodik had previously said that Bosnia-Herzegovina joining NATO would cause complications with neighbor Serbia.

“I will never vote in favor of BiH’s NATO accession, both as RS president and when I retire, I will not forget that the NATO bombed Serbs with depleted uranium,” he said on Monday, referring to the 1992-1995 civil war which resulted in the country splitting from the Serb-controlled former state of Yugoslavia.
