The Turkish Cypriot election board approved on Wednesday the result of a by-election held in Gazimagusa on June 27.

The Higher Election Board (YSK) of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) debated the objection of the National Unity Party (UBP) to the result of the by-election in Gazimagusa, and unanimously returned UBP's objection.

Thus, Huseyin Angolemli, a candidate of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP), became a member of the TRNC parliament from Gazimagusa.

TRNC held by-election on June 27 to elect a new member of parliament from Gazimagusa after Dervis Eroglu was elected the president. Eroglu was a parliamentarian from Gazimagusa before he became the new president of TRNC after presidential elections on April 18.

After the by-election, YSK declared that UBP's candidate and Dervis Eroglu's daughter Resmiye Canaltay won the election with eight more votes than the other candidate Angolemli.

However, the election board later said TDP's candidate Angolemli was elected a parliamentarian with two votes ahead of Canaltay.

Then, UBP objected to the result of the by-election.

After YSK approved Angolemli's parliament membership, the number of TDP parliamentarians reached 3 in the 50-member parliament.

The UBP, which formed a minority government, has 24 seats at the parliament.
