Armenia opens fire on Azerbaijan border town, two injured

World Bulletin / News Desk

An Azerbaijani soldier and a civilian were injured after Armenian forces opened fire on the border town of Alibeyli in Azerbaijan's Tovuz district, according to a statement by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

Both victims were rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds as Azerbaijan accused Armenia of breaching the ceasefire along the border.

Neighbors Azerbaijan and Armenia are technically still at war over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Although a ceasefire has long been in place to secure ongoing negotiations, occassional border skirmishes often threaten to veer the peace talks off-track.
