A captain and two soldiers were killed, and six others wounded Monday evening when a land mine exploded in Azerbaijan's Fizuli district, along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
Azerbaijan Defence Ministry said in a statement that a team of surgeons were dispatched to the area, and a heavily wounded soldier was sent to the capital Baku via helicopter.
Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov went to the region as well, the statement added.
An Azerbaijani soldier was reportedly killed on March 17 by Armenian forces on the countries’ shared border.
The country's defense ministry said Private Elvin Hasanov (20) was killed by Armenian gunfire, which violated the ceasefire between the two countries.
Azerbaijan and Armenia, two former Soviet republics, fought a war over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh in the 1990s.
Efforts have so far failed to reach a peaceful resolution to the conflict which has lasted 20 years. The OSCE’s Minsk Group, including France, Russia and the United States, hold regular meetings to address the problem in the region.Last Mod: 08 Nisan 2014, 11:27
