An official letter sent by Greek Cypriot administration leader Nicos Anastasiades to Turkey's newly elected president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was 'lost,' according to sources.
The letter congratulating Erdogan on his election was given to Greek Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos to give to Erdogan at his inauguration ceremony, but when asked about the letter during his first official visit as president to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on September 1 , Erdogan denied receiving such a letter.
Both the Greek government and the Greek Cypriot administration have insisted the letter had reached Turkey's Foreign Ministry undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu, but Erdogan claimed that the Greek Cypriot administration often declares it has sent letters when it hasn't.
The Greek and Greek Cypriot media is now investigation the whereabouts of the letter, which had received much media coverage before it was sent. Greek Cypriot newspaper Simerini reported that the whereabouts of the letter is currently unknown.
