The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Dervis Eroglu welcomed former U.N. envoy on Cyprus, Alexander Downer, on Wednesday.
Downer, a former Australian foreign minister, played a senior role in Cyprus from 2008 amid efforts to resolve the longstanding dispute between the island’s two communities.
The leaders of both parties to the conflict issued a joint declaration last month to re-launch negotiations to find a permanent path to reunification.
During the meeting, Eroglu repeated remarks about the resumed Cypriot talks, saying an agreement would be easy if Greek Cypriots changed their attitude towards Turkish Cypriots.
"I hope this will be the last meeting and ends with a permanent agreement," Eroglu said of the resumed peace talks.
Downer is now working on the South Australian state election as Liberal Party state president.Last Mod: 26 Mart 2014, 18:11
