The Turkish Cypriot president Dervis Eroglu has called on the UN Secretary-General to convince Greek Cypriots to accept his peace proposal or come to the negotiation table without preconditions.

In a letter to Ban Ki Moon on Wednesday, Dervis Eroglu stressed that the Cyprus question has now remained unresolved for 50 years and said it is high time to solve that problem.

"It is obvious that the Greek Cypriot side needs to be motivated and promoted for adopting an attitude which will provide starting of full-fledged negotiations, as soon as possible by reviewing their insisting strategy," Eroglu said.

Spring 2014 would mark the fiftieth year of the first UN resolution on the Cyprus issue which called for an end to sporadic violence between Turkish and Greek Cypriots.
