Turkish President Abdullah Gul will travel to Sweden on Sunday at an invitation by Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf.
Gul will be the first Turkish head of state to visit Sweden.
While in Stockholm, President Gul will be conferred with Sweden's Royal Order of the Seraphim, the country's highest order.
The official delegation during Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s visit to Sweden beginning on March will include Spiritual Leader of the Assyrian Orthodox Church in Istanbul and Ankara, Patriarchal Vicar and Metropolitan Bishop Yusuf Cetin.
With this visit, Cetin will go down in history as the “first religious minority community leader to participate in an international visit as part of a presidential-level official delegation.”
With the invitation of 16th Swedish King Gustav, President Gul will come together at the Embassy with the representative of the Turkish-origin Assyrian Society that immigrated to Sweden from Turkey. According to Assyrian sources, there are approximately 70 thousand Turkish Syriac Christian immigrants residing in Sweden.
During Gul's visit, Turkey and Sweden will sign a strategic partnership document.
Sweden is a strong supporter of Turkey's EU bid.
