Austrian President Heinz Fischer on Sunday said that Turkey and Austria shared close relations.

Speaking to the AA, President Fischer said that relations between Turkey and Austria were progressing in a positive and good way.

I had a chance to meet Turkish President Abdullah Gul for the fourth time in 1.5 years while in Izmir, Fischer stated.

I do think that the close relations between our two countries is a very good thing and a pleasing fact, Fischer indicated.

President Gul and I discussed Europe's problems, the problem of euro and the Syrian issue, Fischer noted.

President Fischer was in Turkey on a two day private trip.
