Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Levent Gumrukcu said on Wednesday that Turkey has given weight to UN Security Council non-permanent membership, and that's why Turkey repeatedly mentioned about its sorrow and concerns over Syria while Security Council has not taken the necessary actions on Syria.

Speaking in a press conference at the ministry, Gumrukcu said Turkey's criticisms towards UN Security Council do not harm Turkey's candidacy, on the contrary it could actually help Turkey as a country which has different opinions and serious decisions on this issue.

Gumrukcu added, "l think that it does not create any negative effects on Turkey's candidacy process."

Informing about upcoming meetings of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Gumrukcu said the minister wil go to New York to attend the upcoming UN General Assembly session.

In the coming days, "Davutoglu will receive his Canadian, Finnish and Nicaraguan counterparts," Gumrukcu noted.

Gumrukcu also said, Turkish President Abdullah Gul will deliver a speech at the General Assembly on the first day of the session.
