Egypt's Foreign Ministry summoned Turkish Ambassador in Cairo Huseyin Avni Botsali on Monday evening for clarifications about statements made recently by Turkish officials on the situation in Egypt.

Last week, Egypt's presidency said it was evaluating relations with Turkey in light of recent "contradictory messages" from Ankara.
"Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan's vision is pushing relations between the two countries down a path that Cairo has always tried to avoid so as to maintain the historic relations between the two peoples," presidential spokesperson Ihab Badawi told reporters last week, declining to elaborate further.
