Erdogan says Turkey very determined about 'EU reforms'

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that Turkey was very determined about fulfilling the EU reforms.

"We will continue to do what is necessary for a Turkey which caught the EU standards," added Erdogan who addressed businessmen at Turkey-Britain Business Forum in London.

Noting that Turkish government believed that a strong economic structure would develop in parallel with a strong democracy and legal system, Erdogan said that the government took its steps accordingly in the last seven years.

Erdogan said that Turkey developed its democratic standards, and gained an influential place in global scale in economy and foreign policy.

"Confidence and stability. These two magical words or concepts are very much important for us," said Erdogan.

Noting that the "national unity and brotherhood project" --which had been pursued in Turkey for a while-- was very important, Erdogan said that the government took a brave step to strengthen the social structure, unity and integrity as well as minimize the problematic areas.

Erdogan said that Turkey, which was a friend, ally and partner of Britain, was implementing a fair, sharing and embracing foreign policy in a determined manner in regional and global scale.

Erdogan noted that regional issues were the problems which had global outcomes and concerned all countries including Britain, adding that Turkey was working with Britain in a full cooperation in many crisis regions of the world.

Regarding Turkey's EU negotiations, Erdogan said that negotiations had been opened in 12 chapters so far.

Noting that only Turkey's efforts were not enough to record a progress in EU membership, Erdogan said that EU should also fulfill its responsibilities, adding that Turkey expected the EU to eliminate political obstacles which were not related with the process.

Erdogan said that there were five million Turkish citizens in EU member countries, adding that Turkey had already joined the EU in this aspect.
