Turkey's prime minister said on Wednesday that Turkey would always stand by Palestine.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey was waiting for steps the Palestinian administration would take regarding its attempt to be recognized by the United Nations (UN).
"We will always be beside them in every step they take, and our principle is obvious: If Israel is a state there, Palestine is also a state," Erdogan told reporters after meeting Montenegrin Premier Igor Luksic in New York.
Erdogan said Turkey was assuming the same position with the Palestinian state, and Palestinian people had been kept waiting for half a century saying that they would become a state.
"Even though Palestinian people's territory is under occupation, there are some approaches that Israel's territory is under invasion, which is unacceptable," Erdogan said.
Palestine has launched initiatives to join the UN to be admitted as a full member state.
Moreover, Erdogan said Luksic and he discussed common steps they could take, and they wanted to make best use of the two countries' historical and cultural ties.
"I am looking forward to seeing Luksic in Turkey in the possible shortest time, and we will have the opportunity to discuss everything in detail," Erdogan also said.
