Spanish Secretary of State for European Affairs Diego Lopez Garrido said on Monday that education and food safety chapters would probably be opened in Turkey's membership negotiations with the EU.

Garrido told reporters that during its EU presidency, Spain was assuming a stance of not suspending talks with Turkey, adding that moreover, Spain's position was to open new chapters with Turkey.

He said that those new chapters would probably be the education and food safety.

Garrido said that EU full membership was a mutual process, adding that Turkey should also fulfill its responsibilities.
