Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Wednesday held a phone conversation with the NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen after Syrian artillery shells landed in the south-eastern town of Akcakale at the Turkish-Syrian border killing at least 5 and wounding 9 people.

Diplomatic sources said that Minister Davutoglu provided information to Rasmussen over the situation in Akcakale after he was briefed by officials from the Turkish General Staff and the Governor of the south-eastern province of Sanliurfa, Celalettin Guvenc.

Earlier in the evening, Davutoglu had provided extensive details to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the joint Arab League and UN special envoy on Syria Lakhdar Brahimi over the Akcakale incident.

Davutoglu cancelled some of his scheduled activities on Wednesday after the incident in Akcakale and is currently in a meeting with high level bureaucrats at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Turkish capital of Ankara.
