World Bulletin / News Desk

Andreas Scheuer, the General Secretary of Germany's Christian Christian Social Union Party (CSU) has called on the European Union to suspend Turkey's application to join the bloc following Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan being elected as president.

“The Turkey of Erdogan has no place in Europe,” Scheuer was quoted in the Hannover Allgemeine Zeitung, expressing significant criticism of Erdogan's election while calling on his government to reconsider its relationship with Turkey.

Accusing Erdogan, who was elected with a clear 52% victory in the first round of the Turkish presidential elections on Sunday ahead of his main rival Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, of seeking to expand his power, restrict freedom of the press and isolate Israel.

Meanwhile, Germany's Green Party chairman, Cem Ozdemir, a German national of Turkish descent, told Oldenburg’s Northwest newspaper that Turkey entering the EU under Erdogan would be unlikely.

The  Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) is branch of Germany's center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) led by the current Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.

This criticism really is absurd, coming from the descendants of the most fascist, murderous peoples to ever walk the earth. Fascism and racism still bubbles underneath the bosom of many Germans, while the government tries to pretend otherwise.Andreas Scheuer's rejection of Turkey is not because of high morals, he is a just a covert fascist, against anybody not considered an aryan european.

These comments exemplify the German right's contempt not just for Turkey but also for democracy itself. Nothing new to report here.
