A senior operative of the PKK stood his third trial in an Italian court on Friday as the judge said the court would consider Turkey's extradition request.
Nizamettin Toguc (58), head of a federation of several Kurdish associations in Europe, was arrested on July 18 in Venice by the Italian secret police. He has been held in a prison in Padova since then.
In today's hearing, an Italian prosecutor asked the court to release Toguc -- also a Dutch national -- while the court examined Turkey's extradition request as his lawyers also asked for his release on compulsory residence.
The court postponed making a decision the request for Toguc's release to a next hearing.
