Interior Minister Besir Atalay said Turkey attached great importance to the integration of the Turkish population in Germany, noting that use of their mother tong or living their own cultural identity was not an obstacle for this.
Appearing Friday at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Thomas de Maiziere in Ankara, Atalay said he conveyed to the guest Minister the problems caused by the new integration law in Germany, troubling the Turkish population in this country.
Atalay said the peace of mind and the welfare of the Turkish population in Germany was the most important dimension of the relations between the two countries adding that their government attached importance to their access to quality education, integration to the German social and political life and exerted great efforts to this end.
He said he informed his German counterpart about the Turkish government's works for counter-terrorism, democratization, Kurdish issue and constitutional reforms.
De Maiziere, in his part, said half of the 3 million Turks living in Germany were German citizens, noting that they saw Turks which constitute the largest group of immigrants in their country, as a richness.
De Maiziere underlined the importance of the integration of Turks said there was a distinction between assimilation and the phenomenon of integration which came to mean the harmonization of an immigrants with their new country, without breaking ties with their roots and identities.
