The Chairman of the Russian Journalists' Union, Leodinovic Bogdanov, on Wednesday issued a message to support Turkish journalist Cuneyt Unal who was recently abducted in Syria.

Speaking to the Anadolu Agency (AA), Bogdanov said that the Syrian government had to release Unal.

"There is a tragedy going on in Syria presently. Surely, journalists trying to perform their duties also get (negatively) affected by the situation in Syria. More than 20 journalists have been killed since clashes began in Syria. They are heroes trying to do their jobs. All journalists, including Unal, must be released," Bogdanov underlined.

"Journalists work in Syria under dire circumstances. This issue must be brought up in international meetings of the journalists," Bogdanov also said.
