Senior Turkish official starts talks in US capital

Turkish Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ferdidun Sinirlioglu started his formal talks in Washington D.C. on Monday.

According to diplomatic sources, Sinirlioglu met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Joseph Burns and is expected to meet with National Security Council Chief of Staff Dennis Mcdonough, Undersecretary for Defense Policy Michele Flournoy,American-Turkish Council Chairman Richard L. Artmitage and several other U.S. executives.

Sinirlioglu will attend a meeting in Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) and meet with representatives of foreign media.

Diplomatic sources said Sinirlioglu would have political consultations and noted that all the issues at the agenda of the two countries would be assessed in details.

Sinirlioglu and the accompanying delegation will discuss with their U.S. counterparts several issues such as Iran's nuclear program and sanction decisions, developments in Iraq, Turkey-Israel relations and the situation in Afghanistan.

Sinirlioglu and the accompanying delegation are expected to depart from New York on Wednesday.
