More Syrians fleeing violence in their country crossed into Turkey on Sunday as a group of 600 of them were transported to the southern province of Adana, a local governor said.
Avni Cos told the Anadolu Agency that the group was accommodated at a student dormitory, adding that 400 more Syrians were expected to arrive later on Sunday.
The governor said more Syrians were waiting at border crossings with Syria, adding that Adana would host 2,000 Syrians for a tow to three weeks.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Saturday that number of Syrian in Turkey had reached over 55 thousand. "More arriving everyday and we expect a much more extensive solidarity from the international community in shouldering this burden," Davutoglu said during a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Hillary R.
