Turkey and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding on consultation and cooperation.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Davutoglu and CARICOM Secretary General Irwin LaRocque penned the agreement in New York.

"We will have a more systematic cooperation with the Caribbean Community, with which we have a close cooperation for a long time," Davutoglu said during the signature ceremony.

Davutoglu thanked LaRocque for CARICOM's support to Turkey's initiatives and applications to various international organizations.

Turkey was planning to open two new embassies in the Caribbean Community, Davutoglu said.

"This will strengthen our presence in the region, " he also said.

Also speaking in the ceremony, LaRocque said the memorandum would boost bilateral relations and make consultations more systematic.

LaRocque said Turkey was supporting the community and also the community was extending support to Turkey in international forums.

The secretary general also said they were aware of Turkey's increasing role and influence in international relations.
