A cooperation agreement signed between Turkey and France will open the door for energy projects in the nuclear power sector and other areas.

The agreement was signed by Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz, France's Industrial Renewal Minister Arnaud Montebourg, and Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy Philippe Martin.

The agreement stressed the importance of nuclear energy as a tool to cope up with global energy problems and a competitive option to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

Both sides expressed their will to mutually establish cooperation in advanced research and educational institutes of the two countries, which will encourage Turkey to obtain the highest scientific know-how and technologies.

Turkey has had a nuclear power plan since 1970.
