Turkey to join water forum in French capital

Turkish Environment & Forestry Minister Veysel Eroglu will attend the "6th World Water Forum Kick-off Meeting" to be held in the French capital of Paris on Wednesday.

The kick-off meeting will be hosted by French President Nicolas Sarkozy at his official residence "Elysee Palace".

As part of his visit to Paris, Turkish Minister Eroglu will hand over the forum's "host" title to his French counterpart Chantal Jouanno.

Eroglu and the accompanying delegation are expected to return to Turkey on Thursday.

The 5th World Water Forum was held in Istanbul in March 2009.

The 6th World Water Forum will be held in Marseille, France in 2012.

More than 400 people will gather in Paris and Marseille at the beginning of June for the 6th World Water Forum Kick-off Meeting. The kick-off meeting marks the beginning of a 2-year countdown towards the 6th World Water Forum 2012, during which various preparatory processes and events will be organised.

The 6th World Water Forum will build upon and go beyond the recommendations and outputs of the 5th World Water Forum. Working around the idea of "Solutions for Water", it will seek to identify, promote and develop concrete solutions for water.
