Turkey wants to end silence about Syria

World Bulletin / News Desk

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the international community should get into action immediately for finding a solution to the Syrian crisis and a timeline should be decided for the steps that should be taken.

Speaking at the Friends of Syria meeting in Morocco's Marrakech province, Davutoglu said the international community had no excuse for being silent anymore.

He said the situation worsened in Syria since the previous meeting of the Friends of Syria, but the will of Syrian people had not changed and added concrete steps should be needed more than ever.

Saying that the country was about to collapse, Davutoglu added the Syrian regime increased the pressure on its citizens due to the passivity of the international community.

He said Syrian regime armed the extreme elements and terrorists, stating that the longer the crisis continued the more those elements would grow stronger.

Davutoglu underlined that they could not let a sectarian segregation to happen and called on the international community to get into action immediately for the crisis not to spread to the region and recognise the national coalition of opposition as the only legitimate representative of Syria.

Reminding many Syrians fled their country, taking shelter in neighboring countries and Turkey hosted 200 thousand of them, Davutoglu said humanitarian aid for both refugees and Syrians living under harsh conditions in Syria was needed urgently.

He stated "they did not have time to spend with diplomatic efforts and meetings anymore" and a timeline should be decided for the steps that should be taken.
