Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Huseyin Avni Botsali on Wednesday left Cairo to Istanbul, airport sources told Anadolu Agency.
The diplomat is accompanied by around 38 embassy staffers, the sources said.
He declined to give any statements.
On Tuesday, Botsali voiced hopes that the relations between Turkey and Egypt would continue developing, citing historic ties and common interests.
On Saturday, Egypt downgraded its diplomatic relations with Turkey to the level of charge d'affaires and declared the Turkish ambassador a "persona non-grata."
It linked the decision to statements made by Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan about Egypt's domestic affairs and his criticism of Egyptian authorities.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry responded the same day by downgrading diplomatic relations with Egypt to the level of charge d'affaires.Last Mod: 28 Kasım 2013, 10:21
