A group of Turkish businessmen and entrepreneurs is visiting Senegal to look into investment prospects in the textile, fishery, agriculture, bakery machines and furniture sectors.
"We have chosen Senegal because of its economic opportunities and position in West Africa," Muammer Erol, governor of Konya, a city in Turkey's central Anatolia region, told a forum on trade and investment on Tuesday.
"Turkey has a lot of advantages that might interest Senegalese businessmen and industrials, and we are ready to share our experience to establish and strengthen trade relations and cooperation with Senegal," Erol added.
The Turkish delegation arrived on Sunday on a seven-day visit to Senegal.
It includes members of the Senegalese-Turkish Businessmen's Association and the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen, in addition to industrialists.
Delegation members embarked on a series of meetings with Senegalese businessmen following the formal opening ceremony of the forum during which trade partnerships between the two countries were highlighted.
They met with Senegalese Trade Ministry chief-of-staff Augustin Faye.
Faye said that Senegalese imports from Turkey had increased from $83 million in 2010 to almost $200 million in 2011.
"Cars, spare parts, machinery, textiles and plastics are the main goods imported by Senegal from Turkey," he added.
Faye said that Senegal exported seafood and agricultural products to Turkey.
"Senegal's exports are roughly estimated at $5 million."Last Mod: 08 Ocak 2014, 09:43
