Turkish deputy premier to travel to USA for meetings

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan will travel to the United States on Friday to hold talks and attend meetings.

Babacan said that they had an initiative regarding a UN General Assembly resolution on Palestine.

Speaking to AA correspondent regarding his visit to the United States, Babacan said that the UN launched a new initiative named "Panel on Global Sustainability," stating that he would attend meetings of the panel in New York.

Babacan said that he would also attend G-20 meeting and World Bank-IMF annual meetings.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would participate in the UN General Assembly meeting that would take place in New York next week, he said.

Asked whether Palestine issue would be discussed in the general assembly meeting, Babacan said PM Erdogan would bring up the matter during his speech. "We have an initiative regarding a UN General Assembly resolution on Palestine," he said.

Babacan will also visit Washington. He is expected to return to Turkey on September 25.
