Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will head to Qatar tomorrow for a 2-day official visit.
The visit has special importance as it is the first visit after the former emir Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani transferred power to his son Shaikh Tamim last July.
Davutoglu will be visiting Qatar for the first time since June, when he went to the country to attend "Friend's Of Syria".
Davutoglu is expected to meet the new Emir and new Foreign Minister during the visit.
Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Levent Gumrukcu said "Despite we are constantly in touch with Qatar, we have not paid a visit for a while in the scope of bilateral contacts."
Gumrukcu also mentioned that the visit is also important as it comes after Sheikh Tamim took power from his father last summer. "Considering the recent changes in Qatar, including new Emir and Foreign Minister, we would like to discuss regional and international developments" Gumrukcu added.
Apart from dealing with the recent developments in Syria and Genava-II process, "bilateral relations between Turkey and Qatar will be a major concern in the meeting" Gumrukcu emphasized.
New era in Qatar
Sheikh Tamim became the new ruler of Qatar after his father Sheikh Hamad transferred power to his son last July.
The emir made radical changes in cabinet, appointing Muhammad bin Khalifa Al Thani as foreign minister to replace one of the key political figures, Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani.
Davutoglu previously met his new Qatari counterpart Attiyah on 25 August in Istanbul.
Qatar's policy after power change
Qatar has closely been followed especially after the power change. Country's new foreign policy in Shaikh Tamim's rule has been closely monitored especially with regards to Syria. Qatar has been supporting Syrian opposition.
Despite contradicting speculations the new emir made it clear when he adreesed the Shura Council earlier this month, insisting "Qatar will not let down the Syrian people."
The Emir reaffirmed his support to Syrian opposition when the coalition leader Ahmad Al Jarba visited Qatar in July.Last Mod: 22 Kasım 2013, 15:14
