Turkish military says hit 3 PKK targets in N.Iraq

The Turkish military has said three militant Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targets in northern Iraq were hit by Turkish jets between June 26 and 30.

The General Staff said in a statement posted online that three shelters used by the PKK in the Kandil and Zap regions were “effectively” hit by Turkish Air Forces jets. “Our jets, which completed their missions successfully, returned to their bases safely,” the statement said.

The PKK has used northern Iraq as a springboard for attacks on Turkish targets in its decades-long fight for autonomy in Turkey's predominantly Kurdish southeast. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people since the PKK took up arms in 1984.
